Vladimir Putin is a man of many talents and accomplishments. Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in 1952, he grew up in a working-class family and began his career as a KGB officer. He quickly rose through the ranks and became one of the most powerful men in Russia.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Putin became involved in politics and was appointed as the head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), the successor agency to the KGB. He then served as the Prime Minister of Russia under President Boris Yeltsin, and in 2000, he was elected as President of Russia.
During his first term as President, Putin worked to strengthen the Russian state and economy. He cracked down on corruption and organized crime, and he oversaw a period of economic growth and stability. He also worked to improve Russia’s relations with other countries, and he played a key role in the war against terrorism after the 9/11 attacks.
In 2008, Putin stepped down as President due to term limits, but he remained a powerful figure in Russian politics. He handpicked his successor, Dmitry Medvedev, and served as his Prime Minister. In 2012, Putin was elected as President again, and he has since been re-elected in 2018.
